Stardate:2406.04.20 (USS Nimitz - messhall - Ensign Jason Dema - 1735) after the incidentat the holodeck, Jason went back to the messhall to finish his snack before he went to inform the Captain, when suddenly Ensign Julie came in and looked around for any frienly face. "Would you mind joining me?" Jason said. Ensign Julie came closer and stopped next to the table. "Is it allowed? 2 starfleet officers having dinner with each other while on duty?" "Well, I'm on a break, and seeing you here, looks like you're on a break too." Jason smiled "You got me there Sir." And Julie sat down opposite to Jason "Please, just say Jason, we're not on duty at the moment." "Okay, Jason." Julie said a bit sarcastic. "Oh, btw, sorry that you lost because of me yesterday, you didn't seem to happy about it." "Don't worry Jason, the instructor was right, I shouldn't be distracted by unforseen events, but I got to go now, duty calls again." Julie stood and walked away. "Okay, see you soon." Jason saw the look on Julie's face, and she still didn't look to happy about her loss. But Jason stopped thinking about that and went on his way to the Captain to report the situation of Wilson. (USS Nimitz - Captain's room - Ensign Jason Dema - 1753) When Jason arrived, he knocked on the door. (reply Sash) Jason entered. "Good evening Captain, I came to report about Commander Wilson." I can meet you in my ready room at your convenience. =^= Kinkaid pause for a second before responding. =^= Aye Sir, I have to gather a few things and I’ll be right there in five minutes. =^= Kinkaid just finished dealing with a crewman, who came in for a broken left arm (fracture of the radius bone) when his comm badge activated. Kinkaid headed for his office to gather a PADD with medical information that the Captain might be interested in and also, the message from Starfleet Medical about his mother to coming aboard the USS Nimitz for a quick visit (about two hours or so) to see her son in action before leaving to drop off medical supplies to the colonists on Deep Station 12. Kinkaid called Nurse Sanders. “ Nurse Sanders, I need you in my office.” Janet rushed in to Kinkaid’s office only to see her boss gathering a PADD or two from his desk. Janet said, “Doctor, is there something you needed?” Kinkaid looked up and saw his faithful right hand of Sickbay. “ Ah, yes! Janet, I need you to take some of these patient reports and see if there’s any adjustments to their treatment that needs to made and file them accordingly into the ship’s medical log.” Janet was a bit confused by the assignment since it was short notice, but concurred nevertheless. “Of course, Doctor.” Janet said, but paused for a moment before continuing. “BigWill, is there something going on here for this sudden change in pace?” She said concerned. Kinkaid looking over the PADD’s he gathered paused to respond. “Janet, I requested a brief meeting with Captain Sash, which was granted. Believe it or not, my mother; the Chief Nurse at Starfleet Medical and a captain, will be arriving soon to see the new advance procedures in patient emergency rescue aboard this ship and to, also, see her son in action.” Janet did not realize the importance of the situation. “Oh, Sir, I’ll make sure this reports get done and that Sickbay is ready for the visit. You can count it.” Janet reassuringly said. Kinkaid felt a little relieved to know that his “right hand” always knew what to do in tight predicaments. “Now, Janet, I must go and meet with the Captain in his ready room.” Kinkaid said hastily as he proceeds to exit Sickbay. “I’ll batten down all the medical equipment for you, Doctor, until your return!” Janet said in a joking manner. Kinkaid turned his head briefly and glazed upon Janet’s face of comic humour with a smile knowing that Sickbay was in good hands and would except nothing less. Kinkaid expeditiously walked down the corridor to the tubrolift. Destination Deck 1: The Captain’s Ready Room. (Reply CO, Sash) (Posted by Nathan M. He also was not acting very professional himself. "Sir, with all due respect, but, you are the one that is becoming unprofessional here not I." Simbel was going to continue, but, the commander turned to Katie. "I applogize for doing this in front of a lady, please accept my applogies. Good day Ms. Troi." Now nothing much surprised Simbel on most days, but, what Katie did nest did. She hauled off and punched the Commander. She then moved herself in front of Simbel and glared down at the commander. "Commander, the laws that you are citing do not pertain to civilians. Her slapping you does not constitute any insubordination on her part as she is not in starfleet. If you think that the federation would prosecute everyone that slapped someone, there would be no one out of the brig or prison. It does not matter that she is aboard as a school teacher. She was slapping a man she perceived that was insulting her boyfriend. If you understood what she had told you, you would understand just how close we are." Simbel watched as Ensign Dema, the security person that answered, was approaching. "Sir, with all due respect, if you have her placed under arrest, you risk being charged with false imprisonment. If Katie persues it, and if you do this I will suggest her doing so and I will back her up." Simbel finished just as Ensign Dema arrived. Taking Katie's hand, Simbel moved to put himself between her and the other men. "What happened?" Ensign Dema asked "There was just a misunderstanding, which, caused an unfortunate reaction. A slap he would have been able to put up with but a punch was a different matter. "What happened?" John turned to face the Ensign, despite what the Conn officer had said John could push for her to be arrested under charges of assault that could be brought against her Starfleet or Federation Civilian. However for one punch it did seem worth all the paper work and the about 1 week confinement that she would get. "There was just a misunderstanding, which, caused an unfortunate reaction. I really don't think anyone here really need your help." The Conn officer stated, John grinned. "I believe I asked the commander first, so wait your turn so that everyone has a chance to tell their story Ensign, a request to put someone in prison can't be taken lightly." John smiled the Ensigns handling of the situation was impressive to say the least. "We'll start with you Commander, go ahead." John looked blank for a moment and then cleared his throat. “Ensign, It was a misunderstanding good day,” John stated turning and beginning to walk away. "Mr. Wilson, you stay here until I say this investigation is over." "No sonny, I wont. Also it is Commander I do believe I out rank you," John stated continuing his walk. "In this case no, Commander, you called for security, and as long as this investigation is in progress, you're under my jurisdiction, have I made myself clear?" John grinned for a moment; it took a brave person to stand up against Intel shouting about the law. John cleared his throat and then spoke again. "You have no idea whom im do you?" "I'm talking to a commander that thinks that calling security is a joke, now comply or I'll confine you to quarters till this little dispute is over.” in the meanwhile, Jason turned to Troi and Simbel "Miss Troi and Ensign Simbel, you 2 are dismissed, sorry for this incident (Reply Troi and Simbel) Then Jason turned to Wilson again and saw him moving to the console. "Computer identify Commander John Wilson, Executive officer and Head of Intelligence," "May I point you to the fact that you're under security-protocols on a ship now. That means I outrank even the Captain if he would be involved." "Even an Admiral." Jason added "Yes but the fact also remains that Intelligence does not fall under your jurisdiction. Im above your level of control, please if you unsure contact the Captain or Chief of security," "The Captain will surely hear from this, and I'll make sure that your superiors will hear from it too." "My fellow im my superior," John stated sounding smug knowing that at the moment he was the most senior ranking Intelligence officer in active service. He only had to answer to the Admiral, Earl and Blackford he was not sure of their exact connection however no doubt they wouldn’t care. Jason was getting tired of this, very tired. "Listen Commander, I'll let you go this time, but next time you pull something of like this, I'll confine you myself, no matter what rank you are, am I clear on that matter?" "Computer, gimme a list of all my appointments this evening," he said as he stretched. [No engagements] Lorenzo shrugged ineffectually. Since he had started his career he had had this strange vision of his time being fully booked. Lo and behold, it wasnt. He looked at the time display on his desk. He was off duty in 2 minutes. Surely Captain Sash wouldn't throw the book at him if he went off duty two minutes early. He rose and stretched again. No matter how much padding they had, ship-issue chairs always seemed to give him back cramp. He briefly thought of visiting sickbay about the problem, but immediately decided better use of his time would be made on the holodeck. Perhaps a good solid rock climb would wake him up. John needed to begin preparations; this confrontation had sped up the timetable and events. He was going to need to act faster. As he looked around the bridge had no command officer on duty he presumed the FO was making preparations for the meal and the Captain was no doubt involved in some other task. (reply Sash) (posted by Anthony Struelens) Stardate:2406.06.21 (USS Nimitz -FO Office – FO & SFI/XO – Commanders Winters and Wilson – 09:45) Vanyssa looked up from her desk when she heard the chime. She wasn't expecting anyone, but sometimes the crew came to her when the Counseling department was busy. She spoke, "Come?" Out and her eyes widened at the individual who entered. John wondered in and looked around the office, maintaining a neutral posture he refrained from his little recital and attempted to keep things cordial he did after all have to work with the woman. "Commander Winters," John stated attempting to look at ease. Vanyssa watched him look around her office, with narrowed eyes. "Commander Wilson." She said, trying very hard not to frown at him. "To what do I owe this honor of an unscheduled meeting?" Something about this man irritated her beyond belief. John smiled, he could tell from her tone she did not want him here and to be honest the feeling was mutual he did not want to be here. Pausing for a moment he spoke. "Might I sit down Commander?" Vanyssa indicated the comfortable armchairs that she had in front of her desk, a remnant of her counseling days. She indicated the one with the blue and white throw blanket over it, and sat back down in her very comfortable, very large desk chair. It was one of the few things left from the Sevant Era, and she liked it a lot. John made himself more comfortable and crossed his right leg onto his left, brushing down his uniform he decided to get straight to the point. "Commander, I know you don’t like me and you see my presence as something to be opposed. Therefore ive made some decisions the talk we were going to have will not occur. I don’t know you and you don’t trust me, we are not on a good platform to have a discussion," Vanyssa nodded, and sat back in her chair, giving the body language of someone at ease, while her trained senses noticed every shift in body movement of him. "And what, pray tell, Commander, are we not going to discuss?" She asked, leaning back, and trying very hard not to yawn. John grinned, she reminded him of Edward his adopted father. No matter the situation and how uneasy he felt he always portrayed the ultimate ease and relaxed posture. It was a great ability if they had been on better terms he would have no doubt gone into it but however they were not on good terms. "Commander, can we refrain from calling each other commander? Im John," Vanyssa nodded. "Nessa." She said, simply. John paused for a moment; he debated in his mind if this would be a good time to attempt to remove blood from a stone. He would no doubt have more success. "Nessa, ill be frank my presence here is not something I personally desired. Im a little old to be going back into intelligence and I have a family now so my desire for being here is very marginal. However im here now and given a mission I don’t like too much. Since the break we are starting to loose this war, our intelligence is corrupted and we are loosing a hell of allot of good officer. I intend on stopping that, hence why the new intelligence division is forming however we need to start cooperating with the crew more rather than being opposed like the intelligence of old," Vanyssa cocked her head to one side as she listened. "And you are here on the Admiral's personal orders, to assess whether Sash and I are fit to command this vessel?" She asked. "The crew knew Nishi Nakamura well, as well as his wife and child. They trusted him, they do not trust you. And frankly, John, you act like a man trying to hide something." "Your ability to command I will be honest is up for review, after the events in the mirror universe there are certain branches that are concerned shall we say. Winters Im not hiding anything whilst im in this room, if the new Intel is going to have a place I need to start building the bridges. Anything you ask I will tell you," Vanyssa nodded. "I will try to do the same, then." "So ask away then Winters im a open book at the moment and I also grant you permission to surface scan me if you want to check the validity of what I say," John stated wanting to lay all his cards on the table. He had arrived in a bad mood and that had flooded into all his first meetings he however did not want to start creating a list of enemies. Nessa's eyes widened, and she nodded. "Well, then Mr. Wilson, please begin." "Im here to primarily investigate Captain Devan Sash and Commander Vanyssa Winters to check that the mirror universe did not affect or alter their persons. Second objective of the moment is to begin to create contacts in any organization or group we encounter to establish a new intelligence network. Third objective is to protect the Nimitz and the 2nd fleet against any possible threats. Fourth objective liase with CO to appraise of any possible threats to vessel or fleet," John stated reciting his current orders. He knew it was a risky job giving her all of his orders however he couldn’t operate if everyone suspected him of something. Vanyssa nodded. "Those sound reasonable." She said. "Tell me about your wife and child? Were are they?" "Currently im not married, my future wife and two girls are on Geneva," John stated attempting to jump over the conversation. Agents should not have civilian wives for the simple reason that if they ever wanted to get to him they would use his family. John knew at the back of his mind this was a threat however he could not stop things now. "Your two girls?" Vanyssa asked. "Now that sounds like a good story. Is your future wife a civilian? How old are your girls? Would you tell me about them? I am sure that you know that I am a mother, myself. Two girls too." She said with a grin. "I didn't realize we would have anything in common, John." "At the moment Michaella is a doctor and Couns on Geneva, my two girls Beth and Ella I do not know as well as I would like to. They only came into my life recently and to be honest I haven’t seen that much of them. I hope for the opportunity to get to know them better over time. Both of them are currently 12," John stated smiling, the image of his family was only just becoming formed. They had been catapulted into his life however he felt all the better for having them around. Vanyssa nodded. "They sound lovely. Will they be coming aboard? My daughter is 14, and would love some playmates." She spoke quietly. "So many of her friends have died, or been transferred away." John tried not to look shocked at the idea that a child could be surrounded by death and not be bothered. Even at his age he was still not used to it and he still saw the faces of the people he had killed over time. "Hopefully they will be coming onboard however at the moment nothing is certain," Vanyssa followed John's thought. "Jennah has seen a lot of death over time, John. She is relatively happy for all of it. I suppose that we should get down to business then." She said, getting up and moving over to the replicator. "Can I get you anything?" "No I'm fine thank you," John stated, as he sat in the seat he looked around the room. It was not the size of his old office on Geneva however on starships space was always limited. Collecting his thoughts he cleared his throat. "What is your telepathic range?" John stated. Vanyssa frowned. "I'm a 9 on the Betazoid 1-10 range. I am handicapped, though, if I use my abilities too much, I get splitting headaches.... It is due to some neural damage from when I was younger." "Commander, if a person was not to have defenses up and I were to ask them a question. This question got a response from them and they lied could you tell?" Vanyssa thought for a moment. "I could tell if they lied, yes. Not telepathically, but by their body language. It is illegal to use my telepathic abilities that way, to probe someone without approval. I can scan very surface level thoughts and a general emotional aura." Vanyssa firmly believed in the telepathic moral laws. "Right so that would mean you would have to be in line of sight?" Vanyssa thought for a moment. "That would be helpful." John paused for a moment and thought; if he asked her to do this he would be leaving himself venerable. "I have told you about the mission however im unsure of the motives for this. There is a man on the ship that knows allots more but I know he will lie to me. Im going to need your help," Vanyssa leaned close and touched Wilson's hand. : You are speaking of the traitor that attempted to blow up the ship yesterday? Vanyssa sent clearly, not wanting this to be spoken of out loud. ::IF you have a way to block sensors in this room, do it. I do not want to speak of this unless it cannot be traced. John paused for a moment; it was familiar of his wife to have a betazoid in his head. Removing a small device from his sleeve he activated it and placed it on the table. Pressing the activation it began to glow green. "As long as it remains green talk, amber be careful and Red conversation is being tapped," Vanyssa nodded. "What are you speaking of?" "I was sent here by the admiral but also by two men whom I do not know that much about. The Primary one seemed to be a man called Earl Partridge, I have searched every database and it draws up nothing. The secondary one is Commodore Joseph Blackford. These people must have high friends in the squadron since Blackford attempted to kill the admiral. I want to know about Earl he seems to be the key!" John paused for a moment. Vanyssa thought for a moment. "Who do you wish to interrogate?" She leaned back in the chair. "Commodore Joseph Blackford, my ex head of Special services," Vanyssa jumped at the name. "Falthgood." She said, breathing his name. "Falthgood the researcher," John stated. "What about him?" "Nothing." Vanyssa said very quickly. John raised an eyebrow and let it pass for now. "If we were to interrogate Blackford it would have to be black bag op. No security and no official interrogation. He had immunity and therefore we cant do it officially," Vanyssa felt very uncomfortable. "Is Blackford aboard this ship?" She asked. "We need Devan's approval on this." "Blackford is aboard and we cannot inform the Captain of this. It would have to remain totally covert, we cannot involve any one especially the Captain. If he became involved and it came out he would loose his command and face charges. If he doesn’t know he can deny," Vanyssa crossed her arms. "Does Devan know that Blackford is aboard?" ~Does Falthgood? ~ Vanyssa added silently. "No one knows Blackford is aboard and that is the way it must stay. If he becomes spooked he will slip out before we could even get near him. He is trained like me to evade capture," Vanyssa shivered. "You need to talk to Falthgood. You have to. I can't say why, but you need to. He has to know this." "Can you contact him and get him here?" "As in telepathically?" Vanyssa asked. "No. For all that he belonged to my.... counterpart... I have no such connection with him." "No I mean the com link," John stated grinning. "The FO can request the presence of a officer with out arousing suspicion. The Head of Intelligence requesting his presence might raise some eyebrows," Vanyssa nodded. "Yes, but he is in the middle of working with the engineering teams on the saboteur." Vanyssa shook her head, things were getting very dicey here, and she was scared. "Did you have any other questions for me?" "No commander," "Then who?" She asked. "Why is Blackford here at all?" "Blackford is here to check I complete my mission to investigate you and Captain Sash. Proberly also to kill me if things go bad. Me and the Commodore have a history," Vanyssa leaned forward. "What does Intelligence want to know about us." She said, simply, suddenly very very cold. "If you can be trusted, you were in the mirror universe for a long time and you could if you had been changed cause chaos. They want to ensure the protection of the fleet, however it doesn’t sit right and I cant see a rogue such as Blackford turning so easily. There is something allot more here," "Do you want to know what happened?" Vanyssa said simply, trying to steel herself to relive that experience. "I was changed, yes, but Devan was not." "And why just us and not the others of the away team?" "Tell me what happened! And you two because you are command," Vanyssa looked away from Wilson, out her window, focusing on the stars. "I don't remember most of it. We were taken by the altiverse in order to come back here and steal the Nimitz, or at the very least the medical database. The altiverse has superior firepower, but very little medical technology, and many people were dying from plagues that swept over entire planets, leaving wastelands. Some of these were biologically engineered, most were not." She began (more coming!!) "They had arranged to take the place of myself and Captain Sevant... the others that were on the shuttle were a lucky breakthrough. My counterpart apparently 'owned' Mr. Falthgood, he was a gift from a former Captain for a job well done." And Vanyssa shuddered at the thoughts that she had learned of the two of them. "We were locked into cells, pumped full of drugs and left there. Some of us were interrogated as training exercises for their telepathic corps. They seemed to concentrate most on Captain Sevant and Lt. Nakamura." She shivered at the feeling of icy fingers in her mind. "The counterparts came here, attempted to take over the ship. They didn't succeed. While we were escaping, I found Devan... his ship had been sucked into the anomaly and he had been tortured and was scheduled for execution....” Vanyssa shook with the effort of talking about it. "They can only plant personalities in other telepaths. Captain Sevant managed to keep them out. I did not." And then she let loose the tears. After a few minutes she caught hold of herself. "Anything else, you need, Mr. Wilson." John paused for a moment and then spoke. "Im sorry Commander Winters, I do believe that answers all my questions I shall take care of everything now," Vanyssa shivered in the relative warmth of her office. "Talk to Zach. Please. He needs to know." "I will do Commander," John turned and smiled. "Thank you Ma'am" John paused for a moment and then went with his impulse; bringing her closer he gave her a hug. As he brushed her hair back it reminded him off all that he was giving up. What was going to occur over the next years was going to be hard he had already noticed he was starting to change. How long was it before a crying woman meant nothing to him Vanyssa leaned back against Wilson, surrendering to his warmth. "I didn't think you were man enough to hug a crying woman." She said, quietly. "Your wife must be an incredible woman." John didn’t answer he had not thought about his wife in a long time and now he was struggling to remember her. Pausing for a moment John took a step back and walked backwards towards the door. "I have to," Taking a long pause he spoke again. "Go," Vanyssa turned around, shocked. "John, what's wrong." She said, reaching out to him instinctively. "Nothing I have to go," the device started to flash red John looked her in the eyes and collected the device. "Frankly Commander, I don’t give a damn im here if you like it or not," John paused a moment as the Commander looked shocked. :: We are being listened to, :: Vanyssa listened hard as the words floated into her mind. She drew herself up to her full height and in her best manner shouted. "You are an arrogant bastard, Commander Wilson." She shouted. "Get the hell out of my office, you interfering busybody and don't come back. You might be assigned to this ship as Executive Officer, but I'm still the First Officer! If you aren't careful." She warned. "I'll assign you to scrub out the Jeffries tubes. Then see if your Intelligence Community can countermand that!" She stomped over to her desk, hitting something large and ugly so that it broke with a tinkling sound. She looked up at John, eyes twinkling in merriment. John smiled and made his way out of her office, Grinning he walked along the corridor acting angry. He knew he would be watched. (Reply none) (Posted By Rich and Mel) Stardate:2406.06.21 (USS Nimitz –Science Deck - SFI/XO – Commander John Wilson – 10:30) John realized as he walked around the ship that he had not made himself known to all the Nimitz senior officers yet. It was something that needed to be done. As he stepped out of the turbolift he looked around the science deck searching for the CSO. John walked down another long corridor and caught sight of an officer. Grabbing him by the sleeve he spoke. “The Chief where is he?” John stated glaring into the eyes of the young Ensign; he had found recently that he was getting the ability to intimidate people really easily. He knew the rumors of a new wing of Intelligence rising was already making people nervous. “Office sssir,” The Ensign whimpered out. John released the Ensign to continue on his way as he began to make his way to the Ensigns office. John thought as he walked through the science section about the ripples he was creating at the moment. He however needed them as a distraction until his primary mission was complete. With every one looking at him Tagon and others would be free to get into position ready to take him down. The meeting with the FO had proved to be most lucrative and no doubt meeting Falthgood would be the next step. However he didn’t want to draw attention to this fact. Meeting the CSO would be the perfect time to speak to Falthgood as well. Coming to the door he pressed the door chime and awaited an answer. “Chief, Im Commander John Wilson Executive Officer. Just here in essence to make myself known and to meet your acquaintance,” John stated smiling. (Reply Saleke, any) (Posted By Richard) Stardate:2406.06.21 (USS Nimitz - Deck 6, CSO's Office - Ensign Saleke - 10:32 ) Saleke had taken a short break from his duty station and was in his office reviewing reports when the chime rang, with all of the distractions it was becoming increasingly difficult to catch up to his workload. He rose to his feet as he said, "Come." As the Commander entered the room Saleke was already standing lithely on the balls of his feet with his hands clasped behind his back and his back ramrod straight. Some would say the posture was uncomfortable and not a pose from which one could react quickly however they would be wrong, every muscle in the Vulcan's body was like a coiled spring ready to be loosed at an instants notice. The Commander was a tall man and powerfully built and he carried his short but increasing reputation on his collar, the man moved confidently, perhaps too confidently; like a man seeking to bulldoze down all obstacles before him. The man was referred to as an intimidating individual but that intimidation would not extend to Vulcans, intimidation is born from a lack of confidence, unease and fear. Saleke was not lacking in confidence and the emotions could be, and were controlled. The Vulcan was a student of sentient life forms and had done much observation during his time at the Academy, in the instant before the man spoke much of his voluntary responses were noted and catalogued. “Chief, Im Commander John Wilson Executive Officer. Just here in essence to make myself known and to meet your acquaintance,” John stated smiling. Saleke nodded in recognition of the Commander's words and in respect before speaking, "Greetings Commander, it is an honor to make your acquaintance. I have heard much about you in the short time I have been aboard, please have a seat. After the XO had taken his seat Saleke asked. "Is there anything I can get for you Commander?" (Reply: XO John Wilson) (Reply: John Wilson, any) Stardate:2406.06.21 (USS Nimitz - Deck 6 - CSO's Office – SFI/XO – Commander John Wilson - 10:35) John dropped the smile he was carrying around Vulcan’s there was no need for beaming smiles. The lack of emotion meant that a reassuring smile held no effect upon them. This however made his job more difficult; the Vulcan people were always the hardest to read. Actions lead by emotion was easy to predict however Vulcan actions had a knack of sneaking up on you. As John listened to the Chief speak he immediately became surprised he had gone a full two minutes speaking to some one before he was shouted at or hit. Things might have been looking up for John. "Greetings Commander, it is an honor to make your acquaintance. I have heard much about you in the short time I have been aboard, please have a seat” As John sat in the seat opposite the Chief he made himself comfortable by raising his right leg to rest upon his left knee. Leaning back he listened to the Chief again. "Is there anything I can get for you Commander?" “No thank you chief im quite alright,” John paused after his rejection of anything, he was too nervous about events that were about to occur. Drinking was not one of his primary concerns. “So Chief Saleke, how long have you been aboard the Nimitz?” (Reply Saleke) John paused the next obvious question to a human would have been how are you enjoying things however that was lost on a Vulcan since enjoyment was an emotion. His father and his father before him had always referred to them a soulless however it was not a belief that John carried. All the males and majority of the females down his family line had survived in Starfleet dating back to the first voyages of the NX’s. John held a proud heritage however he was the first to become deep in the Intelligence section. Majority of his family had followed the standard career path reaching FO and then CO. He had reached FO and then veered off to the side, taking a drop to a XO a more advisor role rather than the active day-to-day running of the FO. Intel however was however the position where he had started and now returning to it after 10 years in the fleet it was a totally different pace. He had to change however it was still not sitting well, he was used to being trusted by the crew with their secrets and lives. He knew in intelligence he would never get that trust nor that loyalty. “Is your position satisfactory?” (Reply Saleke) “How is the science department did you get all your equipment from Geneva?” (Reply Saleke, any) (Posted By Richard) Stardate:2406.06.21 ( USS Nimitz - Deck 6, CSO's Office - Ensign Saleke - 10:36) To Saleke's polite offer the new XO replied, “No thank you chief im quite alright,” Saleke noticed the smile disappear from the XO's face as he sat down followed by the Vulcan who took his seat at his desk. It did'nt take long for Commander Wilson to take the initiative in the conversation. “So Chief Saleke, how long have you been aboard the Nimitz?” The Vulcan quirked an eyebrow at the question, his arrival after all was a matter of record and readily available to the XO but after an instant decided the question was conversational in nature. "I reported in at exactly 17:20 on the twentieth Commander." After Saleke's answer he noticed the Commander paused for an instant to collect his thoughts, it appeared he was uncomfortable though the Vulcan didn't know why as he was being very hospitable. The Commander's whole bearing had been somewhat contradictory since he had entered the office, he walked at a casual pace but with some jerkiness to his movements as though the casualness was being forced and the smile he had been wearing when he had entered had been tense at the corner of his lips and had not reached his eyes. Although some people tend to look at Vulcans as emotionless it is a falacy, Vulcan's are highly in control of their emotion and disciplined as a rule. The training they receive teaches them absorb and process information that others might normally overlook, this makes them immensly effective as well as being the foundation for their logic. Saleke's initial diagnosis was that Commander Wilson was uncomfortable in his role, more observation would prove or disprove his theory. “Is your position satisfactory?” Asked the Commander. "Yes Commander." The Vulcan said simply. "It was unexpected coming straight from the Academy however it has advantages over a straight Scientific post." “How is the science department and did you get all your equipment from Geneva?” "The Science department is quite well organized Commander, I have not had a chance yet to meet all of the staff or aquaint myself with all the reports however it appears to be satisfactory. If I might ask a question Commander, I noticed you had resigned as FO of Geneva. There is nothing unusual in that however you followed that move up with the SFI/XO post on the Nimitz which is not exactly career advancement on several levels and logic would rule out such a move. What future opportunity did you see in such a change?" (Reply: XO John Wilson) "Also Commander the rumors I have received have painted you in quite an unflattering light which your presence here seems to disprove therefore I assume the beligerence was due much to the other parties involved. To what do you attribute their animosity?" (Reply: XO John Wilson) "I must admit Commander I see StarFleet Intelligence as unnecessary and incompatible with the aims of StarFleet and the Federation. The existence of an entity which skirts Federation rule and law while keeping its means and objectives a secret causes a vacuum into which corruption and deceipt may run rampant. I also believe the other arms of the StarFleet and Federation are quite effective enough to do the same job as SFI." (Reply: John Wilson, any) (Posted by Charles Gatling) Stardate:2406.06.21 (USS Nimitz - Deck 6, CSO's Office – SFI/XO – Commander John Wilson - 10:38) John listened to the Chief respond to his questions as he did he couldn’t help but think about all the events that had been occurring and the two missions he had been sent on. The contradictory nature of the two orders was no doubt going to result in one thing and that was going to be a confrontation. However his reponse to this would be as always which was as long as you walk, act and talk confident then you will succeed. Everyone no matter what race had that one factor linking them together; the Klingons were possibly the personification of confidence. Their day to day lives were the perfect idea of confidence not many people could look upon the idea of death, and suggest that any day was a good day to die. No day was a good day to die but that confidence always lead to victory. In the back of his mind it became a question how long can he maintain this confidence before it all falls apart and him with it. "The Science department is quite well organized Commander, I have not had a chance yet to meet all of the staff or aquatint myself with all the reports however it appears to be satisfactory. If I might ask a question Commander, I noticed you had resigned as FO of Geneva. There is nothing unusual in that however you followed that move up with the SFI/XO post on the Nimitz which is not exactly career advancement on several levels and logic would rule out such a move. What future opportunity did you see in such a change?" John paused for a moment pondering the question, in his earlier years he might have just threw out an answer and to hell with everything else however. In modern times patients had grown it was a prerequisite to his position. “I did resign from Geneva the reasons were numerous however my past has to do more with the motives for this. I have unique experience of SFI and there tactics and since we are now rogue we need people that will be able to counter any efforts made by Starfleet Intel against the fleet. Career advancement is not the driving goal in life Chief; most humans are obsessed with self-glory however I always remember one thing from my days at the academy. That some men seek out the times other men are what the times demand. In essence if we go rushing in search of our destiny it will continue to elude us. However if we leave things to fate it can be a more interesting ride. Sooner or later we all find our place in life. At the moment my place lies here as a chief of ship intelligence and executive officer. So I did not see any opportunity I just leave things to fate, everything happens for a reason,” John finished off, in certain terms he was bordering upon being very preachy. "Also Commander the rumours I have received have painted you in quite an unflattering light which your presence here seems to disprove therefore I assume the belligerence was due much to the other parties involved. To what do you attribute their animosity?" John smiled for a Vulcan he was very inquisitive; it was a good thing though. It was always the best way to be, standing in a crowd never got you recognised however raising your hand always does. “Their animosity no doubt comes from a contribution of factors, firstly no doubt my sudden arrival is a shock factor it is not every day that the first officer of the fleets starbase resigns to assume a lower role. Therefore immediately there is speculation and assumption. Secondly the position of intelligence officer, historically the intelligence officer has been the man not to see people but to see the grander scheme of things. To most historical Intel officer’s one life is tragedy a million is a statistic. So human life comes at a low cost too most Intel. So therefore people see us as the enemy and don’t like the idea that we not only watch externally but also internally. Thirdly the crew has been through a lot from what I have been able to gather therefore it is a forgone conclusion that their nerves will be a little frayed,” John stated smiling. “However animosity does not bother me, in my mind it comes with the uniform,” "I must admit Commander I see Starfleet Intelligence as unnecessary and incompatible with the aims of Starfleet and the Federation. The existence of an entity, which skirts Federation rule and law while keeping its means and objectives a secret, causes a vacuum into which corruption and deceit may run rampant. I also believe the other arms of the Starfleet and Federation are quite effective enough to do the same job as SFI." “Looking all the way back to the Napoleonic wars in Europe and what I would consider the start of modern warfare the intelligence organisation began to prove its worth. A scenario, if you were to be in charge of a army and you were going to have to battle with your neighbours would you not want to know their force size, strength and ability. Intelligence was originally conceived to be the eye and the ears of armies hence the name Intelligence. With out good intelligence it is close to impossible to run any operation. The Federation ideals are something to aspire to, equality on earth was a gradual process and in my mind we are yet to completely crack it. The ideal is an ideal because it is something to work towards hence why it is an ideal. If it were a reality it would loose its ideal status. What you have to remember is that just because you want one ideal does not mean that every one else does. The federation has a lot of enemies Borg, Romulan, Cardassian, Breen, Dominion, Kazon and the list could extend further. For the protection of our way of life we need to know what these people are doing and why they are doing it. Secrecy is therefore necessary, it would be impossible to run any operation if every person knew about it and new its motives. It is a curse however secrecy is a necessity for our protection. You are Proberly right other divisions could Proberly for fill the role of intelligence however the whole point of having a separate entity is the secrecy factor. Nearly every intelligence community runs on one constant and that is the ability to relay upon the fellow agents of the agency. We are separate because we need to be, the intelligence community would be unable to survive if it was run as an open agency because it would be too easy to infiltrate and manipulate. Plus agents in Intelligence have certain moral flexibilities that not all people possess. We need to exist so you all can be free to exist. If you remove the eye and ears all you have is a body stumbling into things trying to smell his or her way through life,” John finished his speech, pausing to catch his breath he spoke again. “So why did you choose Science Ensign?” (Reply Saleke) “Also tell me something about yourself?” (Reply Saleke, any) (Posted By Rich) Stardate:2406.06.21 (USS Nimitz - Main Bridge - SPC Schoolteacher Katie Troi, Captain Sash, Ensign Saleke - 1306) Katie had arranged with the Captain to bring the honors winners to the bridge, to allow them to see it for a few minutes. It had been the #1 wish of all of the winners, to see the Bridge, and it was such an easy wish to fulfill. "Good afternoon, Captain Sash." Katie said formally, gesturing the five students onto the Bridge. "These are the winners of the honors exams, 1 from each of the grades. Children, this is Captain Devan Sash, and beside him is the First Officer, Jennah's mother, Commander Vanyssa Winters." Jennah hid in the back of the crowd, away from the prying eyes of the Bridge. Sash smiled down at the children. He was a tall man, and being surrounded by these children he couldn't help but feel like Gulliver surrounded by the Lilliputions. "Good afternoon Ms. Troi,"Sash smiled, "and students." He looked at them careful not to refer to them as children. He could see a mixture of awe and fear on their faces. Then he saw Jennah, trying to hide in the back. "Welcome to the bridge," he continued. "How many of you have been to the bridge before?" Jennah shrank further to the back. She didn't want any more attention being drawn to her... this was embarrassing enough. One of the youngest children stepped forward. "Katie says you are an Angelsian. Is that true? We studied you in school." The little girl, a vulcan, about six human years old blushed and hid behind what appeared to be an older sibling, about sixteen human years of age. "Angosian, T'Lin. Angels are from Earth." He said, without a hint of emotion. "Priam, Captain Sash." He stepped forward, holding out his hand. "I look forward to examining the science console." "Priam is going to apply to Starfleet Academy next year." His little sister piped up. Katie and Vanyssa exchanged smiles. "We look forward to your tour, Captain." Katie finished. "It's a wonderful opportunity." "Indeed," Sash agreed, smiling at Katie. "When I was younger I would have sold my left arm to be on the bridge of a Starship. Too answer your question Miss T'Lin, yes I am Angosian. It's a good thing you study all of the important species in the Frederation," he said winking at Katie. He then turned to Priam. "And I am certain you will get to have a good look at many of our systems. If you like we can start at the science station." He could see Priam fight back his adolescent urges to keep a smile off his face. "That would be ... acceptable," he managed to say with a strained control in his voice. Sash turned his face to hide his amusement. "And this is Ensign Saleke," Sash introduced the new CSO. "He has just joined us and is learning the station himself. perhaps he could show you what he's working on?" Sash looked expectantly at the Vulcan. The children also turned to give him their full attention. Saleke had joined the computers from the High Energy Biophysics lab and the Geological array to run a joint investigation of the mineral samples Chan Kenishi had been studying. ~ Perhaps this crossover of the departments will give me some idea of the potential nature of the energy saturation of the samples.~ The presence of the children on the bridge had been in the back of his mind but since they were well behaved he had not noticed their nearness, at the Captains question however he turned in his seat and found two wide-eyed youngsters standing right behind him and looking at him with obvious curiosity. "Of course Captain," Saleke said as he stood up, he moved the chair back away from the monitor so that the group of children could move in closer, their smiles and obvious delight were well received by him. Reaching around Jennah and Priam he set the monitor to show a cross-section of the sample. The presence of a young Vulcan in the group reminded him of his time aboard the Nahru with his parents. "This is a sample of mineral taken from the area of an Anomaly encountered by this ship recently, the samples are saturated with energy from the Anomaly as shown by this reading here," he pointed to a readout at the lower right hand corner. Using his finger as an interface he turned the sample cross-section so that the inner core was uncovered. "Pointing to another reading he said, "The samples are slightly out of phase in the inner core, meaning the nature of the Anomaly is strongest in its center." Having explained the readouts and shown them the sample he stepped back and quirked his eyebrow at their ooohs and ahhhs, he found children to be an interesting diversion. Looking at the Captain he nodded his head slightly to show his willingness to continue is Sash wished. Jennah edged forward a little bit and stood under Saleke, in front of the others. Science interested her greatly. "What does a Chief Science Officer do? And why don't you have sunnedglassers on like the other one wears? He said that they make it easier to think?" She looked back at her mother in the FO chair and blushed. The Captain tended to find her very amusing most of the time, but Vanyssa said that was because he missed his own children. Saleke nodded at the girl, ~ She is very curious, that is good, the information will be good for her. ~ "A Chief Science Officer is the manager of the various science departments, overlooking the investigations that are being done and coordinating activities when one or more labs need to share information." The word sunnedglasses made him blink to fight back a slight upward curling of his lips that threatened to intrude upon his face. "Lieutenant Falthgood's eyes are highly sensitive to light so he wears them so that he can see better, too bright of light on your eyes can make your head hurt and make it harder to think." "Mr. Saleke, what is your specialty in sciences?" Katie Troi asked, her very cultured voice suddenly loud to Vanyssa. Saleke turned to the schoolteacher and nodded. "My speciality is in geology and sentient life forms Miss Troi, another study I have been heavily involved in is the cultures including literature and philosophy of the various other races." Vanyssa wandered over to listen to the new CSO lecture. He sure did have a gift for teaching. ::He's cute, Ness.:: Katie sent, keeping her eyes on the Saleke. ::Who ?:: Vanyssa asked, the sides of her lips quirking up slightly in an effort to keep the smile contained. ::Well, that Wilson guy for one. Sash. And Saleke.:: Katharynne replied, seemingly absorbing the lecture. ::I think it's a perquisite for all Starfleet men to be handsome.:: Vanyssa sent back, the lecture suddenly boring her. She moved away from the lecture, back to her own chair. She sat down, leaned back in the wonderfully padded leather contraption and closed her eyes. The last couple of days had brought about so much change...she wasn't sure how much of it was good. Sash looked over at the two women standing close to each other but silent. ~No good can come from this.~ "Let's leave Ensign Saleke to his work children," he began, but as he spoke he noticed the young Vulcan boy, Priam, looking carefully at the screen. "Ensign Saleke, what is this spike in the high band radiation?" Priam asked. Saleke nodded slightly at the young Vulcan. "The energy field within the core is unstable and is emitting sub-micronic beta radiation within an encapsulated amomalous field, you might say its own small pocket universe." The Vulcan was impressed with Priam's questioning. "If you would like I could show you the samples in person at a later time, Ensign Kenishi appears to enjoy having other people interested in his work. Meet me at my office at 17:05 and I'll take you to his lab." Priam almost let go of a most unVulcan reaction. But he couldn't help but show the spread of a smile across his face. "Thank you Ensign," he managed to say calmly, "that is acceptable. Until then." As he walked away he couldn't help but give himself a little excited shake. (reply none) (posted by Al Muir, Melinda Martin, Charles Gatling) Stardate:2406.06.21 (USS Nimitz - Main Bridge - SPC Schoolteacher Katie Troi, Captain Sash, Ensign Kateb - 1312) Sash had moved on with the other children. "This is the tactical station," he explained. "Does anyone know what the tactical station is for?" The klingon boy looked up and said "It's where you blow things up." Jennah chimed in "It's where you track intruders." The little vulcan girl said, "It's where the sensors outside the ship report. The ones far away and here." The crowd of four children looked up at their Captain with expectant eyes. Sash nodded, "You are all correct. Although I don't think I would characterize our defensive systems as where I "blow things up," it is the weapons center, and one of the stations that the sensor array is monitored through." "This is our Tactical Chief and head of Security, Ensign Kateb," Sash introduced Kateb. Onyx was a bit surprise has she look at those kids, then she remember that there was a visit on the bridge. She put a small smile on her face and said. "Hello kids... How are you?" There was a round of "Hello's" and "fines". Then a voice came from the crowd. "You look awful small to be a Security Chief." Sash almost laughed as he thought about the question. Children can and will ask the greatest questions. "Size doesn't matter," she replied, "it's what is between your 2 ears that counts and what you do with it." In her head she had the memory of that 6 feet 7 inches klingon that she fought on the klingon ship that welcomed her for 6 months. Then the Klingon boy stepped forward. "What has been your greatest honor in battle?" "A year or so back, I affronted an Akmar beast, do you know what it is?" The children all shook their heads, looking at her in fascination. "Look at this screen here." She pointed the screen and search the library for the image and show it to the kids. "An Akmar beast as an average height of 2 and a half meters, weighing over 250 lbs, and some are bigger then that and it's a mammal. They have a coat of fur ruff to the touch, like sand paper. He has a row of spikes along his spine, 3 spikes on the edge of his forearms, those are poisonous, and his claws, a number of 3 like you can see are poisonous too. He has teeth which might remind you of crocodiles and, of course, it eats meat. Chacellor G'Rhor and I separated from the group... we were hunting Krakm, it's like a big wild pig, very strong and powerful, and just like a wild pig, it can kill. So we separated, we were talking, then we heard a noise in bushs 20 meters away from us. What ever was there moved away, we thought it was are prey, so cautiously we went toward it. I suddenly stopped, something told me that it was wrong. The chancelor checked a bit further, when suddenly, I saw the Akmar. I ran and screamed. I hit the Chancellor to push him away as the beast pounced. Of course, it attacked me instead. My blade hit the beast 3 times and finally had reason of him but the beast poisoned me. For 3 days, I was in pain, but I lived through it. I have only one mark of this incident." Onyx open her tunic a little to show her left shoulder, there was a scare and a dark mark. "The dark mark, isn't old blood, it's the poison of the beast who made it." Sash looked at the eyes of the children. Only the Klingon looked amused. The others had wide, freightened eyes. "Ah .... yes... well," he stammered, "thank you Ensign, I believe we'll move on to the Ops station and meet Ensign Tannasg." As he passed by the security cheif he whispered to her, "Don't deal with kids much do you Onyx?" He didn't wait for a reply and led the children down to the main command area of the bridge. (reply none) (posted by Al Muir, Melinda Martin, Laurence Durand) Stardate:2406.06.21 (USS Nimitz – Bridge - SO Ensign Richard Orkney – 1320) Richard arrive on the bridge with a rolling tray and was just in time to hear and see the last part of what Ensign Kateb was saying. The children seem to be frighten but not in the extreme, the Klingon was amused and admirations. He saw the captain whispering to her and leave with the kids to see OPS officer Ensign Tannasg. Richard came to her. “What did he say?” “That I don't deal with kids to much... and he's right I don't. They will get over this, it's no less worse then a story told around a camp fire. At the exception that this one is true.” She whispered back. “What are you bringing?” “Plants for the Captain's ready room... who is the new officer?” “Ensign Saleke... are new CSO... might want to present yourself to him, but he just might come to you.” Has she said that, she saw Ensign Saleke coming there way. (Reply from Saleke) (Posted by Laurence) Stardate:2406.06.21 (USS Nimitz – Bridge - SO Ensign Richard Orkney – 1320) Has Ensign Kateb said that, she saw Ensign Saleke coming there way. She put on a smile. "Greetings Ensign Kateb." “Good afternoon Ensign Saleke... Excuse me, but I have to return my attention to my console. Talk to you later Richard.” Onyx went back to her console, checking on the internal sensors. "And you must be Ensign Richard Orkney, It is an honor to meet you. I arrived late in the afternoon yesterday therefore was not able to meet with many in the department however I tender my apologies nonetheless. I am Saleke, the new CSO." “You are right... I'm Ensign Richard Orkney, ship botanist. The Captain asked me to bring him some plants for his Ready room. It's a bit spartan, I picked in my best specimen. A Cereus peruvianus, a Thelocactus, and a Clivia Miniata that will be suspended by the window. ” (Reply from Saleke) (Posted by Laurence) Stardate:2406.06.21 (USS Nimitz - Main Bridge - Ensign Saleke - 13:23) After Kateb turned back to her console Saleke turned to the man beside her. "Yes they are very," He paused a heartbeat to find the proper word. "vital Mr. Orkney. They appear to be good choices, I am sure the Captain will enjoy them. I won't keep you any longer Ensign, I wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to meet you, if you are in ten forward this evening at 20:00 perhaps we can talk further. I know you have your duties to perform and I need to monitor an ongoing experiment. (Reply: Ensign Orkney) After excusing himself Saleke returned to his station to monitor the energy patterns of the mineral sample. I will see you in 2000 at Ten Forward.” After excusing himself Saleke returned to his station to monitor the energy patterns of the mineral sample. Richard look at him leave and after look at Onyx and took a few steps. “I have a plant for you... A jasmine tree, about 1 foot high.” “I don't know, me with those types of tree never got along fine.” “You will Onyx, it has a beautiful fragrance and I know you like it... You said so yourself.” “Okay! Okay! I accept... come with me. I will help you with those plants.” At the very moment, she saw the Captain coming with the kids again. Onyx smiled and whispered. “I think it's your turn Ensign Orkney to talk to those charming kids.” (Reply from Sash, anyone) (Posted by Laurence) Stardate:2406.06.21 (USS Nimitz - Main Bridge - Ensign Saleke - 14:54) Saleke looked up from the accumulating information on the mineral sample, the information was becoming more and more intriguing as he looked deeper and deeper into the properties of the Anomaly from which it was taken through the "Footprint" it had left in this bit of debris taken from its vicinity. Putting together all the available information and making logical extrapolations from it would take another several days. Saleke looked up, remembering another piece of business he had wanted to take up. The students had left some time ago and the Bridge had returned to normal in their wake. Seeing that Sash was finished with the business he had been conducting Saleke got up from his station and walked toward him. Coming up beside the command chairs he nodded respectfully toward the Captain and FO Winters as he clasped his hands at the small of his back and settled into his pose. "Captain might I have a word with you for a moment?" (Reply: Captain Devan Sash) "Captain it is about the Vulcan boy Priam, I perceive that with the proper training and motivation he has the potential to make a fine Starfleet officer. I am sure the facilities and his teacher Miss Troi are more than adaquate for his education however I believe it would be becificial to his future if he spent some properly supervised time in the ship's labs. Do I have your permission Captain to talk to Miss Troi about such an arrangement? (Reply: Devan Sash, any) (Posted by Charles Gatling)
